IELTS EXAM: ‘How to Make English Learning Effective and Efficient’

I’m no stranger to English learning. I’ve been dealing with it since I was 7, and only recently that I’ve realised that I can learn English not only effectively but also efficiently.

What I want to say is that I don’t waste my time or money, and still I can see some progress in my studies. But why can’t so many people achieve their goals, no matter how hard they try to? There are several reasons for that.

First, their level of English is very low, which makes it extremely difficult for them to achieve their dream level of English quickly.Frankly, it is nothing but a vicious circle; thousands of people with a low level of English from all over the world are begging for help in various language exchange groups on Facebook, looking for free English lessons with native speakers of English. But the sad truth is nobody wants to waste their time teaching them. Not surprisingly, everyone wants to have skilled and educated interlocutors to keep up a solid,sophisticated conversation. So, your first goal should be improving your Englishup to the level of B1 or B2 to make it sound better.

Secondly, people from different backgrounds can hardly understand each other to the full. Just imagine, some boys from Syria or any othercountry trying to make friends with American or English girls by showering them with inappropriate phrases.

Will they succeed? Of course not, and for very good reason. To make friends from the English-speaking world, you should firstimmerse yourselves in English movies, books, songs, you name it, only to know English/American culture as the back of your hand. The best way would be to spend some time living and studying in an English-speaking country. When you become familiar with the English culture, English people will understand you better, and eventually you will make a lot of English friends to keep your English fresh from getting rusty.

Finally, you need more speaking practice to speak better. Simple as it might seem, this advice is normally ignored by Russians who are too shy or, let’s call a spade a spade, too lazy to speak English regularly. The easy way out would be our English speaking club where you can make new friends and share your ideas in English. It’s been free so far, because I want it to be helpful and affordable for everyone. I would recommend attending as many speaking club sessions as possible. By doing so, you will learn new words and improve you speaking skills.
I don’t like to have a card up my sleeve, so I will also explain what I do to speak English fluently. I have several English, US, and Canadian friends on Facebook to discuss different issues with. I post and text in English to get regular feedback from my FB friends. More than that, I talk to them daily via Messenger and ask them to correct any of my inaccuracies and slips of the tongue. To crown it all, I continue using only anglophone media (reading the Guardian, watching the BBC and RT, as well as English versions of DW and France 24) to learn new words and to revise the old ones.

All that helps me learn English effectively and efficiently.
